Russell grew up in Belbroughton and went to school in Hagley. He graduated from the University of St Andrews in 2002 and has since worked in Alvechurch as a property tax surveyor, a job that gives plenty of opportunities for travel, which he greatly enjoys. Russell is the secretary of Bromsgrove Conservative Future and the Deputy Chairman of his local Conservative Branch. What spare time remains is spent watching films and television, listening to genuine gospel music, playing tennis with enthusiastic incompetence and reading a variety of books, newspapers and, in particular, car magazines. Russell especially enjoys the peculiar sensation of writing about himself in the third person.
